A solemn valedictory session was held at the Yala Local Government Legislative Council Chambers in Okpoma in honour of the late Hon. Godwin Ogar Wonah, fondly known as Goddy Brass. The event, held amidst a heavy atmosphere of grief and reverence, brought together a host of dignitaries, political figures, family members, and well-wishers to pay their last respects to a man widely remembered for his love and compassion for mankind.

The session, presided over by members of the Yala Legislative Council, served as a moving tribute to Hon. Wonah’s impactful life and times, His contributions, particularly during his time as a councillor, were lauded by all who described him as a bridge-builder and an advocate for peace amongst men.
Among those in attendance were the current Vice Chairman of Yala Local Government Area, Hon. Godwin Odama; former Chairman of the Council, Hon. Mathew Ojugbo; present and former councillors; and other prominent figures such as Prince Akwaji Offiono, Hon. Tom Agi, Chief O.C. Bravo, Dr. Raphael Oko, and Hon. Offiono Offiono. Each paid glowing tributes to the late Hon. Wonah, recalling his humility, tireless efforts for community empowerment, and strong leadership qualities.
Speaking at the session, Hon. Odama described the deceased as “a man whose life was defined by simplicity, service, and sacrifice,” while Hon. Ojugbo noted that the political history of Yala LGA would be incomplete without mentioning Goddy Brass, whose legacy lives on in the lives he touched.
Family members present at the event expressed appreciation for the overwhelming show of support and solidarity. In their remarks, they noted that Hon. Wonah’s life was not only one of political relevance but also of strong family values, compassion, and faith.
The valedictory session concluded with prayers, a roll call of honour, and the signing of the condolence register, as the people of Yala bid farewell to one of their own, a servant-leader whose memory will endure in the annals of local governance in Cross River State.
Hon. Godwin Ogar Wonah is survived by his wife, children, and extended family. His funeral arrangements are expected to continue in his hometown, Ijegu Yala, where community members are also preparing for a final celebration of his life and legacy.
