Asaba, Nigeria – Wednesday, April 23, 2025
In a stunning political development, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, along with his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba by Senator James Manager, shortly after a marathon meeting that lasted over six hours at the Government House, Asaba.
Senator Manager declared, “All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC. We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”
Confirming the mass defection, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniagwu Charles, said the decision was a unanimous one among party stakeholders, citing the need for alignment with the center and a new political direction for the state.
This dramatic move effectively collapses the PDP structure in Delta, a state long considered a stronghold of the opposition party, and delivers a major boost to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
