Los Angeles, USA – Nigerian singer Tems has clinched the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards for her hit song Love Me JeJe. The prestigious ceremony was held in the early hours of Monday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United States.

Tems triumphed over stiff competition from some of Nigeria’s biggest stars, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy, to take home the coveted award.

In her emotional acceptance speech, the Grammy-winning artist expressed deep gratitude, saying, “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team.” She dedicated the award to her mother, whose birthday falls the following day, adding, “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, mum.”

She also took a moment to appreciate her team, mentioning Muyiwa, Wale, her stylist, and close associates, and concluded her speech with, “To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.”

Despite her victory, Tems lost in two other nominated categories:

  • Best R&B Song – won by American singer SZA
  • Best Global Music Album – won by Matt B’s “Alkebulan II”, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Nigerian artist Rema was also a contender in this category for his album Heis.

This win marks Tems’ second Grammy Award. She previously won in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her contribution to Wait for U, a global hit by Future featuring Drake.

Tems’ latest achievement further solidifies her status as a leading force in global music, reinforcing Afrobeats’ growing dominance on the international stage.
