The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended prominent Kannywood actress Samha M. Inuwa for one year following complaints from citizens regarding her “revealing dress and provocative videos.”

In a statement released by Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the board’s Information Officer, it was revealed that the actress had repeatedly been cautioned about her “crude dressing, vulgar displays, and inappropriate language” in some of her content. Despite prior warnings, Samha continued to act in ways the board deemed contrary to cultural and moral standards.

As part of the disciplinary action, the board has revoked Samha’s licence and will no longer censor any films in which she appears.

“The Kano State Censorship Board is legally mandated to ensure that all forms of expression—videos, writings, or otherwise—reflect the state’s religion, culture, norms, and values,” the statement clarified.

The board described the suspension as a measure to preserve moral standards in the Kannywood film industry and to enforce its regulations effectively.

This action highlights the board’s intensified efforts to align artistic productions with Kano’s cultural ethos, sparking conversations about artistic freedom and cultural accountability in Nigeria’s film industry.
