Troops of the Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation Fansan Yamma, have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Shamsiyya Ahadu, suspected of serving as an ammunition courier for criminal elements.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement on Sunday, detailing how Ms. Ahadu and her accomplice, a motorcyclist identified as Ahmed Husaini, were apprehended on December 28 in the Badarawa area of Shinkafi Local Government Area (LGA), Zamfara State.
According to the statement, Ms. Ahadu was found in possession of 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and six magazines, reportedly meant for delivery to the camp of wanted terrorist kingpin, Bello Turji.
“Her arrest followed an intelligence report regarding the movement of the terrorists’ logistics along the road from Kware to Badarawa communities in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara state,” the statement read.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops swiftly established a roadblock, which led to the apprehension of the suspects. Both Ms. Ahadu and Mr. Husaini are currently undergoing investigations by the appropriate authorities.
The military reiterated its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and preventing the illegal movement of arms and ammunition within its operational jurisdiction.
“Members of the public are therefore urged not to relent in their efforts at providing credible information that would lead to the arrest of wanted terrorists and their collaborators,” the statement added.
Operation Fansan Yamma continues to intensify efforts to ensure the safety and security of communities in the region.
