Anambra State, Nigeria
Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has advised students aspiring for opportunities abroad to pursue them, emphasizing that if Nigeria’s economic and social challenges are addressed, many who have migrated will eventually return.
Obi made this statement during a recent visit to Anambra State, where he donated N60 million to two educational institutions. His donation included N50 million for Peter University in Achina/Onneh and an additional N10 million for the School of Nursing Sciences, Adazi-Nnukwu. Addressing students at the School of Nursing Sciences, he stressed his commitment to supporting institutions that build skill, professionalism, and integrity.
“It is my dedication to keep supporting institutions that nurture skill, professionalism, and character,” Obi remarked. He acknowledged his previous visit in May, which had been delayed from last year due to his participation in the presidential election campaign. “Those of us in public life should be able to earn public trust, and that is why I am here to do as I said,” he added, emphasizing the importance of reliability and integrity for public figures.
Obi also urged Nigeria’s Nursing Council not to place restrictions on graduates seeking opportunities abroad. “If it is not going to work for you here, go to where it will work for you,” he advised, underscoring the practical need for young professionals to find rewarding environments to develop their careers. He reassured the students that if Nigeria’s situation improves, those who have ventured abroad will likely come back to contribute to the country’s growth.
Obi’s remarks reflect his longstanding support for Nigerian students and his commitment to fostering quality education and professional development, both locally and internationally.
