Federal High Court Halts Ganduje’s Purported Suspension

Regarding the alleged suspension of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje by his ward, the Federal High Court in Kano has stepped in. Following an ex parte motion filed by Ganduje to uphold his fundamental right to a fair trial, the court issued its order on Wednesday.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, and nine additional people are listed as respondents in the application.

The activities of APC leaders in Dawakin ward, Tofa LGA of Kano, on April 16 about suspected corruption led to Ganduje’s reported suspension. The APC’s State Working Committee in Kano, however, quickly overturned the suspension and disciplined the ward executives. To make matters more complicated, on the same day, Usman Na’Abba, a judge of the Kano High Court, upheld the alleged suspension.A.M. Liman, a judge of the Federal High Court in Kano, granted an ex parte order on Wednesday in response to Ganduje’s request, temporarily stopping the suspension’s implementation until the matter is heard and decided. He underlined how crucial it is to keep things as they are and hold off on taking any further action until after the substantive application hearing.

“That the purported decision reached during the purported emergency meeting of the alleged executive members of APC Ganduje Ward, held at Ganduje Ward of Dawakin Tofa Local, is hereby restrained from being implemented and/or given effect,” he said, addressed none of the respondents, their servants, agents, or privies.

The judge emphasised that the parties are hereby required to preserve the status quo prior to the alleged emergency meeting of the APC Ganduje Ward executive members and to refrain from taking any further action in this regard until the substantive application has been heard and decided. The court has scheduled Ganduje’s appeal hearing for April 30, signalling a turning point in the ongoing legal dispute over his APC suspension. Associated
