Cross River State Government Set To Recover All Public Assets In The Hands of Individuals And Groups

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr Gilbert Agbor has reiterated the determination of Governor Bassey Otu administration toward recovering all State Government assets in the hands of individuals and groups.

Gilbert said this recently when the House of Assembly Special Committee on Recovery of Government assets led by Speaker Elvert Ayambem visited Cross River House located at the Central Business District, Abuja.

Expressing dissatisfaction at the shocking revelation that the Cross River House in Abuja with 100 hotel rooms and suites was concessioned for a paltry N6m annually for 30 years amounting to 180m in 30yrs, he said that an assets register would be established to document and track government assets, adding that the measure was imperative to review and recover assets in the hands of individuals and groups belonging to the state.

A lot of things have gone under the bridge, and in this dispensation with the Peoples First Mantra of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, procedural errors in the management and disposal of public assets in the past will be addressed.

His Excellency has reassured that it is not only a season of sweetness but accountability and transparency, and everyone will heave a sign of relieve as his administration is about the people, the people and the people”.

“Governor Otu’s position and mandate is anchored on the fact that you can’t deliver sweetness without accountability, hence he is determined to put the state on the road map of progress, growth and development”.

Barr Agbor added that inadequate records of government assets had led to significant financial losses to the state and a gap in the concessioning of state assets which is equally affecting the state vis-a-vis our poor revenue allocation from the federal, and the Governor is prepared to address all of these “.

He further said the assets recovery and management is not out to victimize anyone but in line with His Excellency”s commitment to transform and grow the state’s economy for the benefit of Cross Riverians.
