The Federal Government of Nigeria has disclosed the official earnings of the country’s Vice President, shedding light on the total salary and allowances attached to the position.
The revelation came from the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the statutory body responsible for determining, implementing, and monitoring the remuneration of public office holders across the country.
According to the RMAFC, the Vice President of Nigeria earns a total of ₦12,126,290 (twelve million, one hundred and twenty-six thousand, two hundred and ninety naira) annually. This figure represents the sum of his basic salary and total allowances.
A breakdown of the earnings shows that the Vice President’s annual basic salary stands at ₦3,031,572.50 (three million, thirty-one thousand, five hundred and seventy-two naira, fifty Kobo). On a monthly basis, this amounts to ₦252,631.04.
Beyond his basic salary, the Vice President is entitled to several statutory allowances. These include:
- Hardship Allowance: This is pegged at 50% of the basic salary, amounting to ₦1,515,786.25 annually.
- Consistency Allowance: The most substantial allowance, this stands at 250% of the basic salary, translating to ₦631,577.60 monthly and ₦7,578,931.25 annually.
These allowances are specifically designed to aid the Vice President in effectively running his office and executing his duties.
In addition to the explicitly stated allowances, the Vice President also benefits from other perks, including vehicle maintenance and fueling allowances, funding for personal aides and assistants, utilities, security services, entertainment, newspapers, and various miscellaneous costs necessary for the office.
In summary, the combination of the Vice President’s basic salary and allowances results in a monthly earning of ₦1,010,524.
For perspective, RMAFC Chairman, Muhammed Shehu, also revealed that the President of Nigeria earns ₦14,058,820 annually, which breaks down to ₦1,171,568 monthly. State Governors, by comparison, are reported to earn ₦7,782,968 annually or ₦648,581 per month.
These disclosures provide citizens a clearer understanding of the remuneration of key public office holders in Nigeria.
