In a bold and impactful initiative aimed at uplifting the economic fortunes of his constituents, the Honourable Member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono, on Monday unveiled a large-scale empowerment program that has been described as one of the most comprehensive in recent times across Cross River State.
Held amidst cheers and gratitude from hundreds of beneficiaries and stakeholders, the mega event featured the distribution of valuable empowerment tools and direct financial support, worth over N15 million, to selected individuals from the 24 wards that make up the federal constituency.
Items distributed included tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, rice planters, and wheat reapers—tools carefully chosen to enhance the productive capacity of artisans, farmers, and small-scale entrepreneurs across the region.
To further drive local economic development and agricultural sustainability, Hon. Offiono also announced the establishment of two cooperative societies—one for Ogoja and another for Yala Local Government Area. Each cooperative is to manage a newly equipped, fully functional Rice Processing Factory strategically located in their respective LGAs.
In addition to physical equipment, select entrepreneurs and agribusiness owners received direct cash grants ranging from N300,000 to N1 million, intended to scale up their ventures and deepen community-based enterprise development.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Offiono expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the beneficiaries, urging them to make judicious use of the tools and funds received.
“My primary duty in the National Assembly is to make laws. But leadership, as exemplified by our mentor, Distinguished Senator Jarigbe Agom, demands that we go the extra mile,” Offiono said. “This empowerment drive is a testimony to that commitment, and I assure you that this is only the beginning. We will continue to work together for the prosperity of our people.”
He warned against the temptation to sell off the equipment for short-term gains, emphasizing that the long-term goal is to elevate the economic capacity of individuals and communities across the constituency.
The atmosphere at the event was celebratory, as beneficiaries took turns to express their gratitude, praising Hon. Offiono for continuing the legacy of effective representation and people-focused service associated with Sen. Jarigbe Agom.
The empowerment program was witnessed by a host of dignitaries and party stakeholders, including Chief Austine Edibe (representing the State PDP Chairman), Hon. Matthew Ojugbo, Hon. Timothy Okwoche, Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko, Hon. Gabe Ugor, Comr. Brown Odey, Chief Ogbuole Agi, Hon. Friday Eji, Hon. Emma Odidi, Hon. Elijah Okache, Mr. Joe Ulom, Hon. Stephen Okpako, ward chairmen, PDP leaders, support groups, and a crowd of non-indigenes and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the remarkable show of leadership.
The program, facilitated by GOFFIO MEDIA, is being hailed as a strategic model for constituency-based development and grassroots empowerment.
