President Bola Tinubu has extended warm birthday wishes to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on his 65th birthday, despite recent political differences between them.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended El-Rufai’s contributions to democracy, his role in the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his mentorship of younger politicians. Tinubu acknowledged El-Rufai’s involvement in the dialogues that led to the formation of the APC and his significant contributions to the party’s victories in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 general elections.
The President wished the former governor good health and continued strength in serving the nation.
El-Rufai, who has recently been critical of the APC and President Tinubu’s administration, warned that the President’s relationship with the northern region had deteriorated and could result in a political backlash similar to what former President Goodluck Jonathan faced before the 2015 elections.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also congratulated El-Rufai on his milestone birthday, describing him as a dedicated public servant who made significant contributions to governance in Nigeria.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu praised El-Rufai’s tenure as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and his leadership in Kaduna State, noting the growth and development witnessed under his administration.
“Malam el-Rufai is a committed public officer. He turned around Abuja during his tenure as Minister of FCT. Kaduna State also witnessed phenomenal growth and development in many sectors during his eight years as governor,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
On behalf of the people of Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu wished El-Rufai a long life, good health, and renewed strength to continue serving Kaduna, Nigeria, and humanity.
