
Calabar, Cross River State – The Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Abubakar Robert Ewa, has died.
Mr. Ewa passed away this evening at the Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar, the state capital. The 61-year-old commissioner was reportedly receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment at the facility before his demise.
As news of his passing broke, members of the Cross River State Executive Council and other aides of Governor Bassey Otu gathered at the hospital to console his grieving family.
Mr. Ewa’s death comes shortly after his last public engagement, a visit to the Arts and Crafts Village at the Cultural Center in Calabar, where he addressed traders about an impending demolition exercise to pave the way for the reconstruction of the facility.
A seasoned public servant, Mr. Ewa had a long and distinguished career in Cross River State. He served as Secretary and later Chairman of the Boki Local Government Council. Additionally, he held the position of Special Adviser on Community Relations and was Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force, where he contributed to environmental conservation efforts.
The late commissioner was widely respected for his dedication to public service and his commitment to the development of Cross River State’s tourism and cultural heritage.
