The police in Ebonyi State have issued a statement confirming the arrest of two key individuals in connection with a horrific viral video in which two adolescent girls are dehumanised. Dennis Ali and Ituma Sunday are responding to questions about the circulating video in which they are said to have tortured underage girls after stripping them naked.
The girls, who are claimed to be between the ages of 15 and 16, were stripped, flogged, and dehumanised in a rural Ojiegbe Ngbo community in Ohaukwu LGA, Ebonyi State, after being accused of stealing poultry.
The 59-second film, alleged to have been recorded in November 2023, surfaced on social media and sparked widespread condemnation.
One year after the event, Human Rights groups and campaigners for girls’ rights urged police to take action.
DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Command’s spokesman, stated in a press statement issued on Tuesday in Abakaliki that the new Commissioner of Police, Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya, who was not in command of the Ebonyi State Command at the time of the event, has ordered a comprehensive and thorough inquiry into the occurrence.
