The government has decreased the university admission limit to 16, allowing younger kids to apply, according to Education Minister Tunji Alausa.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, said that the government has cut the minimum age for university entrance from 18 to 16 years.
In a tweet on X (previously known as Twitter), the Federal Ministry of Education said, “FG reverts tertiary admission age to 16!” Dr. Tunji Alausa announced the reversal, citing opportunities for gifted pupils and a focus on excellent education.
This change allows pupils who meet the academic standards to apply to colleges and other higher education institutions at the age of 16 rather than 18.
According to sources, Dr. Alausa announced this development at his inaugural news briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. He clarified that the prior age limit of 18 was based on Nigeria’s National Policy on Education but will no longer be enforced.
