Kaduna, Nigeria – August 7, 2024: Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has asserted that the recent wave of protests across Nigeria is not driven by widespread hunger and economic hardship but rather by a concerted and sponsored effort to destabilize the current administration and force a regime change.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Tuesday, Governor Sani emphasized that while the country faces significant economic challenges, the narrative that the protests are purely hunger-driven is misleading. “What we are witnessing is a coordinated attempt by certain elements to undermine the government’s authority and create chaos,” he stated. “This is not about the economic hardship alone; it is a politically motivated effort to force regime change.”

Governor Sani’s remarks come amid growing unrest in various parts of Nigeria, where citizens have taken to the streets to protest against rising inflation, fuel prices, and unemployment. The governor acknowledged the economic difficulties but insisted that they are being exploited by political actors to further their agendas.

“The government is working tirelessly to address these economic issues,” he assured. “However, it is clear that there are forces at play who are not interested in seeing solutions but are instead bent on inciting the public and creating instability.”

Governor Sani called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and not be swayed by those seeking to manipulate genuine grievances for political gain. He urged the public to support the government’s efforts to restore economic stability and warned that those found to be orchestrating unrest would be held accountable.

In response to the governor’s claims, opposition leaders and civil society organizations have criticized his statements, arguing that they detract from the legitimate concerns of Nigerians facing severe economic hardships. “It is disingenuous to dismiss these protests as mere political machinations,” said a spokesperson for a leading opposition party. “The reality is that Nigerians are suffering, and their voices deserve to be heard and addressed sincerely.”

As the situation develops, the government faces increasing pressure to find immediate solutions to the economic woes while addressing the underlying political tensions highlighted by Governor Sani.
