A Kano High Court has ordered the ousted Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, to stop acting as emir and has told the police commissioner to evict him from the small palace on State Road.
Kluemedia says that the order was issued on Monday, May 27, 2024, by a court presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu.
The court ruled that the order shall be upheld until June 11, 2024, for the hearing of the substantive motion. It should be noted that a Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice A.M Liman, issued a restraining order last Thursday against the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano and the statute establishing the state’s defunct five emirates.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, on the other hand, stated that the judge who issued the judgement was in the United States, and threatened to submit the situation to the Nigeria Governors Forum, claiming that nothing prevents Muhammadu Sanusi II from being recognised as Emir of Kano.
Sanusi II therefore walked inside the emir’s palace and began his duties as Kano Emir on Friday. However, Aminu Ado Bayero was out of town when he was overthrown and moved to a tiny palace on State Road, which was heavily guarded.
Later, Kano Commissioner of Police Muhammad Usaini Gumel, along with other security chiefs in the state, stated that the court’s ruling restricting Sanusi as Emir will be implemented.
The decree prohibited Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa, and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya from claiming emirates of Bichi, Gaya Rano, and Karaye.
The defendants in the complaint include Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya, Inspector General of Police, Director of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Nigerian Army.
The plaintiffs include Kano State’s Attorney General, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and Kano State House of Assembly.
