CBN Reportedly Sacks 200 Workers

A significant shakeup has shaken the Central Bank of Nigeria, with the central bank apparently launching another wave of layoffs affecting senior directors and around 200 employees.

According to viral social media reports, the affected personnel come from a variety of departments, including Trade and Exchange, Procurement and Support Services (PSSD), DFD, and FPRD.

This newest departure joins a long list of continuous disengagement at the top bank. The CBN has disengaged 317 employees in the last two months. According to Daily Trust, the dismissals are likely due to the CBN’s shift away from development financing operations.

Cardoso had previously expressed worries about such interventions, claiming that they take the bank away from its main job and risk distorting the economy.Appointments were terminated for directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, principle managers, senior managers, and lower-level staff.
