Just In: Labour Slashes Down Minimum Wage Demand

The Organised Labour has lowered its minimum wage demand from N615,000 to N500,000. This is done to expedite and finalise the negotiations with the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage.

A source at the meeting told Vanguard that the government team is firm about N54,000, citing a lack of funds and the private sector’s inability to pay. However, the private sector has increased its offer by N3,000, bringing it to N57,000 from N54,000.

According to the source, “the government has agreed that the NLC will use evidence-based presentation.” However, they say that eight states are neither paying or completely implementing the 2019 minimum wage.

The source went on to say, “The government is claiming that the funds are unavailable. They also discuss the business sector’s incapacity to pay. The insider stated, “Labour has been requested to shift in response to the government.” They agreed and came down to N500,000.”
