Delta Governor Commends Rivers Counterpart Over Infrastructures

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated that the projects he is inaugurating were completed in four months since his administration began making choices and tackling governance in February 2024.

This comes as the governor has stated that his administration will continue to provide initiatives that have a direct good impact on the people while also empowering them to lead better lives. Governor Fubara made the assurance Thursday during the inauguration of the Egbeda Internal Roads project in Emohua Local Government Area.

He added that the Egbeda Internal Roads Project was completed to meet the requirements of the people while also resolving the area’s recurring flooding issues.

The Governor acknowledged the people’s support before, during, and after the elections, and stated that his administration owes them the dividends of democracy, which include projects and social service delivery.

Governor Fubara insisted that strong government, services, and projects be delivered at a reasonable cost. He added, “We’re just getting started, but I promise you’ll get more attention.

If we can achieve this in four months and receive this level of adulation, imagine what will happen after we complete one year of our record time, two years of our own record time, and Rivers State will have experienced something different from conventional governance.

I understand why I said four months. We began full governance in February 2024. That is when we started making decisions and addressing governance.

And I am thrilled to tell that our employees are pleased with what we have accomplished. “What we want to accomplish is provide governance to our people while also delivering services in record time and at a low cost.

My white paper contains information about everything we’re doing. I carry it with me, so there is no risk of manipulation. Call me any day, any time; it is there. I still have all of the records for the ones I did before to this.

He stated that all initiatives under his administration were approved before to execution, and that he carries out any project based on his personal discretion. “

If you call me any day, I will bring the records of all my activities in government, because I know that as a public servant, the most essential thing is record keeping; so that if something happens while you are not present, someone can simply pick up the file and view the history.

He said, it is how I was trained, and I keep it in mind before I do anything. So I’m not terrified of anything. I can show my records to anyone who calls me at any moment. “I have all the approvals to show that I acted based on approval rather than personal decision,” he stated.

Governor Fubara went on to say, “There is nothing wrong with repairing a road and committing to develop a region. But what is crucial is that you perform those things to the people’s pleasure.”

He commended the Egbeda people for their support and collaboration with the contractor, which contributed to the project’s success.

Governor Fubara, on the other hand, agreed to extend work on the road from Egbeda to Omerelu and vowed to upgrade the Community Secondary School but not include boarding facilities.

During the project’s inauguration, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, stated that he drove with Governor Fubara on the road to the event venue and can attest to the governor’s commitment to sustaining infrastructure development in the state.

He stated, “This road project in Egbeda is a true testament to the Rivers State Government’s dedication to fulfilling its promise of sustainable infrastructure development for the state.

“It is encouraging that these all-season roads would economically benefit not only the inhabitants of Egbeda, but the entire Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State.

“With these roads, the people will enjoy better socio-economic empowerment and integration between the local government and the rest of the state,” he stated.

Engr. Atemea Briggs, Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Works, described the project, stating that the internal roads were initially awarded by the immediate past administration on March 9, 2023, to Monier Construction Company Nigeria Limited (MCC) at a cost of N3.87 billion.

“On November 27, 2023, the contract was reversed to include more roads to better serve the Egbeda community.” As a result, the reverse contract’s value was boosted to N12 billion.

Before our Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, took office on May 29, 2023, the previous administration had only paid N1.5 billion of the contract sum,” he stated. According to Engr Briggs, the roadways increased the overall number of lanes from 9.32 kilometres to 21.5 kilometres, as well as the total length of drainage to 25.4 kilometres.
