BREAKING: Court Restrains Pro-Wike Lawmakers From Parading Selves As Rivers Assembly Members

An interim order has been obtained by the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, prohibiting the embattled Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and 24 others from parading as House members.

The court, presided over by Hon. Justice Charles Wali, also prohibited the affected lawmakers from meeting or sitting in the auditorium of the House of Assembly quarters, located off Aba Road in Port Harcourt, or any other location, to conduct or purport to conduct legislative business of the Rivers State House of Assembly, as their legislative seats have been declared vacant pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.

The lawsuit was filed by the newly elected factional Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, along with two other legislators. The Governor of Rivers State, the Attorney-General of Rivers State, and the Honourable Chief Judge of Rivers State were also named as defendants in the lawsuit.
