Victor Jumbo is the next Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Jombo is one of four lawmakers who have remained faithful to the state’s governor, Siminalayi Fubara, since the political crisis began.
Edison Ehie, the former factional Speaker and leader of the pro-Fubara lawmakers, later resigned from the Assembly following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention to mediate the feud between Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Fubara later named Ehie as Chief of Staff for the Rivers State Government House.
Jumbo is a member of the state House of Assembly, representing the Bonny Constituency. A source in Government House, Port Harcourt, who was familiar with the incident and spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to do so, verified the development to our correspondent over the phone.
He said, “Yes, I can certify that Hon Victor Oko Jumbo is the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. “His colleagues elected him at their meeting in Port Harcourt this afternoon. That is all I can say right now.”
