FG Not Considering Any Foreign Military Base In Nigeria — Information Minister

Information Minister Mohammed Idris stated that the government is not considering any offers from any country about the installation of foreign military bases in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Monday, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris dismissed as “false” rumours in certain sectors that the Nigerian government is considering locating such a military installation in the country. “

The Federal Government is aware of false alarms being raised in some places alleging conversations between the Federal Government of Nigeria and some foreign countries over the location of foreign military bases in the country.

“We urge the general public to completely disregard this falsehood,” the minister stated. Recently, certain northern leaders warned President Bola Tinubu in a letter against permitting the US and French governments to relocate their military bases from the Sahel to Nigeria, claiming that such a proposal would endanger the country.

In his statement, the information minister stated, “The Federal Government is not having such discussions with any other country. We have not received or are considering any proposals from any country for the installation of foreign military bases in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government already benefits from international assistance in addressing current security difficulties, and the President is committed to strengthening these partnerships in order to achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda’s national security objectives.”
