The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has ordered the closure of all schools, government offices, private offices, banks, transportation unions, and market unions throughout the Southeast on Thursday, May 30.
The IPOB stated that the sit-at-home was to memorialise Biafran heroes who died during the 1967-1970 civil war. IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful declared Thursday, May 30, 2024 as a sit-at-home day in Biafra Land for all Biafrans, friends of Biafra, lovers of freedom, and residents.
We mark May 30th as Heroes and Heroines Day, remembering the men and women who died so that we could live, before, during, and after Nigeria’s genocidal war against Biafrans from 1967 to 1970, and even now. “
Every year, on May 30th, Biafrans observe a mournful memorial day. To honour our heroes and heroines. Biafrans are encouraged to celebrate this one-day sit-at-home in honour of the spirits of our deceased heroes who fought for our survival today.
Every Biafran in Biafra territory is urged to sit at home on this day and think on the dangers of the forced union known as Nigeria, which has claimed the lives of millions of Biafrans.
Other Biafrans outside of Biafra territory are invited to honour our heroes by staying at home or limiting their activities on this day. “
To that end, IPOB orders all schools, government offices, private offices, banks, transportation unions, market unions, and private individuals to halt all operations on Thursday, May 30, 2024, in honour of our heroes and heroines.”
Exceptions to these directions include institutions and personnel on special duty, such as nurses, doctors, ambulance services, hospitals, and medical professionals, who may operate on that day.
We call on Christians and traditional worshippers to use this day to pray to Chukwu Okike Abiama for the fallen heroes and also pray for Biafra Independence from this murderous contraption called Nigeria” .
