Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has pledged that the commission will now convene with stakeholders on a quarterly basis to improve the creation and maintenance of comprehensive strategies for the region’s development.
In an interactive session with opinion leaders and young groups from the Niger Delta in Port Harcourt, Ogbuku pledged to keep his word, saying that the involvement was essential to guaranteeing the longevity of his projects and programmes.
We may not understand the direction our people want to go in until we give all of our leaders—political, traditional, youth, women, and other leaders in the Niger Delta—that platform and opportunity to discuss what our future should be,” he emphasised.
We have gathered at this forum to hear from the youths; to interact with them and rub minds because we realise that we cannot be planning programmes for youths without involving them at the foundational level,” he said, emphasising that the NDDC had a duty to utilise resources from various groups.

With our Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement, or HOPE, we have given Niger Delta youths more opportunities and hope by identifying their interests for skill training.” He clarified that the commission had benefited from the HOPE project’s assistance in creating a thorough digital archive that contained vital data regarding the needs, interests, credentials, and job status of the Niger Delta’s young.
470,000 young people have registered in the database thus far, and we will work with youth organisations to make sure that every young person in our care is listed.
“This database will function as a foundation for data-driven planning, facilitating the development of effective policies and initiatives aimed at the youth population.
He declared that the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce and the NDDC were collaborating on youth and young entrepreneur training in the region. The commission would also work with the chamber to support SMEs and guarantee the sustainability of youth development initiatives.
