Lagos workers earn minimum of N70,000 since January – Sanwo-Olu

According to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, employees have been receiving an extra N35,000 in salary allowance since January. He also disclosed that a new minimum wage programme will shortly be implemented by the state administration.

According to the governor, since the start of the year, people who were previously making the minimum wage of N35,000 or more now receive salaries of N70,000 or more.

“The Lagos public servants and all other officers are aware that we have been providing them with a wage allowance of at least N35,000 per month since January, on top of their previous earnings.

This indicates that those who previously made at least N35,000 are now making above N70,000. They have been enjoying it since January.

At a state ceremony on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu stated, “It is important for people to know that we make these things very clear that this government has doubled up to ensure that it has not left the citizens on their own at this difficult time.”

In an update on the state’s involvement to lessen the current economic suffering, the governor stated that his administration will use unions and local governments to provide food products to 500,000 homes in the state.

The governor added, “We created 59 makeshift markets outside of the regular markets out of our 57 local government and local council development areas and made it Sunday-Sunday market.” This refers to the “Ounje Eko” initiative, which offers food items at cheap costs.
