The request was made in a statement released in Lagos on Thursday by Mrs. Olubunmi Odesanya, the publicity secretary for the Lagos State LP.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the state government said on Wednesday that, as part of its Eko Cares social intervention initiative, food packs will be distributed to 500,000 homes.
In response, Odesanya urged Sanwo-Olu to put more effort into developing infrastructure and giving citizens who are more vulnerable the tools they need to be independent.
We can’t help but ask why the APC government prefers to hand out fish to people instead of teaching them how to fish. How many people in Lagos stand to gain from these food packs?
According to a rough estimate of the total population of Lagos State, the smallest local government unit in the state is home to more than a million households that are vulnerable and impoverished. Why is the APC administration unable to build the necessary infrastructure so that families can buy food independently, or will they always need palliative care?
The Labour Party is interested in knowing who would benefit and how these food packets will be delivered, an LP representative stated. Odesanya counselled Sanwo-Olu to start building infrastructure that would improve people’s quality of life.
The Lagos State Government should make significant strides in producing its own electricity and power using the abundant resources at its disposal, according to the Labour Party.
