Just In: Fire In Lagos Airport As FAAN Diverts Flights

Early this morning, there was a fire outbreak at the E54 Bridge of Terminal One of Murtala Muhammed International Airport. When electrical engineers saw smoke rising from the E54 Bridge, they quickly turned off the electricity to the E Wing of the airport.

The Federal Airports Authority (FAAN) Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah Director, issued a statement stating that all flight operations in Terminal 1 of MMA have been redirected to the D Wing, despite the fact that the fire was contained at 06:41 am.

According to the statement, “Electrical engineers promptly turned off power to the entire E Wing at 05:29 hrs after detecting smoke billowing from the E54 Bridge.” Quick to react, the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team reached the scene at 05:30 hrs.

Although sparks from an electrical unit are suspected to be the source of the incident, a full investigation is still underway to determine the exact reason. By 06:41 hrs, the incident—which had grown into a fire—was under control. There is now work being done to ventilate the building’s smoke.
