Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president in the general election of 2023, has given an explanation for his decision to forgo building new schools while serving as governor of Anambra State.
Reno Omokri, a social media influencer and former presidential assistant, had challenged the supporters of the former governor of Anambra state to show them a single school he had constructed during his eight years in office. Reno offered a ten thousand dollar reward to anyone who could locate a school constructed by Obi.
Reno offered a ten thousand dollar reward to anyone who could locate a school constructed by Obi. At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi responded to Reno by saying that those who made such accusations had not utilised his manifesto.
After closing schools and announcing a dysfunctional educational system, he claimed that Anambra state had gone to the top of the rankings when he came, from 26th place in the country.
“I improved people’s quality of life, mental and physical health, schools, and basic necessities, and people shone like stars,” stated Obi. “That was my manifesto.”
“Building coastal lines when internal roads are impassable is similar to building new schools when the old ones are moribund.”
