The resumption of schools every term and the first week of September is usually a trying period for most parents in Nigeria due to the pressure of paying their children’s school fees and providing other requirements for the start of a new term or school session.
But the Captain Hart Modey Foundation, (CHMF), a non- governmental organisation (NGO) operating in Cross River State, has been engaged in the charitable work of reducing the financial burden on parents during the resumption period.
The foundation has hosted and supported several less privileged school kids and orphans with payment of school fees, educational materials, including school bags, math sets, writing materials, and books over the years. The mission is to keep supporting the education of children including primary school leavers who are unable to further their education due to either their poor family background and/or other social vices. This has increased school enrollment and improve literacy in our local communities. It has in turn reduce child labor, and abuse and other social vices.According to the
President/Founder, Captain Hart Modey , “We carefully identify and send out-of-school children back to school thereby; increasing school enrollment, increasing literacy level in our immediate community; and subsequently reducing drastically the potential exposure of children to child labor, abuse and social vices which will cater for their emotional and psychological well-being.
Unarguably, the resumption period is a period parents are usually under pressure to pay school fees and buy all the necessary books and materials for their children and wards. It is a known fact that there are some children in our communities whose parents are not well placed to cater to their needs at this time of school resumption; hence we have chosen to lend some support in our little way.
“As a non-governmental organisation NGO with a vision to positively impact the lives of the young ones in our communities, Captain Hart Modey Foundation strongly believes that one does not need to have so much money before one could make impact in the lives of others.
Quoting Etienne de Grelett’s postulation on the essence of good deed in life as long as one is alive, saying, ‘I shall pass through this life but once. Any good therefore, I can do, or any kindness I can show, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it; for I shall never pass this way again’, Hart Modey has appealed to Cross Riverians to key into the project and help in uplifting the lives of the less privileged ones in the communities.
For Captain Modey who is Marine Sailor, “Giving is living. Make it a hobby. Little gift can go a long way in putting smiles on people’s faces.”Every child deserves good education in a nurturing school environment where they feel safe to explore and express their feelings. Lets support Captain Hart Modey Foundation to create safe spaces for our children. We cannot wait for government to do everything. Otherwise, we would be waiting for ever.
