The Association of Table Waters Producers (ATWAP) has stated that due to the high cost of production ingredients, pure water might be marketed for N100 each sachet.
Our reporters discovered that the group announced this on Tuesday during a press conference in Lagos on the growing production costs of packaging materials and their impact in Nigeria.
The association’s President, Clementina Ativie, stated that they had faced numerous problems, including high diesel prices, a lack of power, and expensive production costs.
He went on to say that the current price of water sales reflects the country’s position and that they have no control over it.He stated, “Pure water is being marketed for N50, and it is even rising up to N100 per unit. We have no control over our own situation. The expense of manufacture is substantial.”
As of last December, we were purchasing materials (nylon) for N1,100 per KG. The 6 kg of nylon now costs N3,600/N3,700. The cost of treatment is also significant. The increment for these materials occurs three times in one week. It is also difficult for us to raise the cost of water.
If average Nigerians cannot afford clean water, I’m not sure where we’re going. Every water producer is supporting the pure water factory with personal funds or borrowed money.”Many banks do not provide financing to pure water businesses.
We ask Nigerians to bear with us. We do not want Nigerians to pay more than N20 for a sachet of water. The cost of production, particularly the price of diesel, has influenced so many factors.”
