…ASSURES OF GOVT INTERVENTION
The Cross River State Honourable Commissioner for Housing, Dr Mrs. Beatrice Igwe has condoled with families affected by the recent fire incident that rendered over 45 residents including children homeless at Okuku metropolis in Yala LGA of the state.
It would be recalled that a raging inferno which occured on Sunday , January 21, 2024 had engulfed a residential building on Glado School Road in Okuku-Yala, leaving over 45 residents, including children, homeless as the mysterious fire incident spared nothing in their path, reducing homes and property to ashes.
Dr. Mrs. Igwe, who swung into action immediately her attention was drawn to the incident from social media reports, expressed sadness over the incidence and the hapless situation victims of the inferno found themselves, assured of the state government’s intervention to ameliorate the pains inflicted on victims by what she described as unfortunate incident.
In her bid to get government agency responsible for such cases alerted over the incident in Okuku, she have visited the DG, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to draw his attention to the ugly situation victims are faced with at the moment.
She also hinted of her plan to visit the Honorable Commissioner Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Helen Isamoh to inform her of the situation and see to it that urgent help get to those affected by the mysterious inferno.
According to eye witness, the mysterious inferno took place within 20 minutes destroying every belonging of residents but that no live was injured or lost.
Another account said, among those impacted was a POS money agent, whose hard-earned funds for the day’s business at Okuku market were tragically incinerated. The severity of this unforeseen calamity paints a heart-wrenching picture of loss and adversity.
It noted that, now more than ever, these families, who find themselves grappling with the aftermath, require our collective support to rebuild their lives from the ruins left behind.
