On Wednesday, Nigerian street-pop musician Habeeb Badmus, nicknamed Portable, was proclaimed the winner of a celebrity boxing match versus Nollywood actor Charles Okocha after the fourth round.
The fight, sanctioned by Heritage Boxing Entertainment and staged at Landmark Beach in Victoria Island, Lagos State, began shortly after 1 a.m. and lasted approximately 40 minutes.
After Portable claimed contractual concerns, which escalated to an internet battle over a purported N40m rip-off, the duo ultimately settled their scores with their fists.
Portable alleged Okocha defrauded him by only providing him a minimal sum, in violation of a contractual agreement.
Portable seized the early lead in Round One with a solid start.
He was dressed in blue underwear and a sleeveless shirt to match.
He also took complete charge of the ring, looking to find his range from many jabs to Okocha’s body, who was dressed in a red top and red shorts.
Okocha was back in the game in Round Two after escaping hits from Portable, and everything seemed to be going his way.
Okocha gained more ground than Portable did during the fight, and despite being in the lead, he was determined to score more points.
His jabs even knocked Portable down, necessitating the intervention of the referee.
Portable was racing around the ring in Round Three, trying to get back into the game, while Okocha was chasing him around.
Portable took advantage of various moments to return for the hits he was taking in round two.
The two celebrity boxers were exhausted by Round Four, but Portable was still firing direct punches that took Okocha off guard.
Meanwhile, when the referee called for Round Five to determine the winner, both of them declined to continue, resulting in Portable being declared the winner.
Although Portable did not win by TKO, KO, or even points, he did secure the belt and consolidate his status as the worthy champion in the hard-fought encounter.
