Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has died.
On Wednesday, a family source told our reporters that Akeredolu died in Lagos.
Kluemedia has learned that he was managed by State House doctors until his death since they were unable to fly him abroad.
“They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week.” He was 67 years old at the time.
The ill governor returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany and has only now begun another after President Bola Tinubu urged him to give over responsibility to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
His deputy, Aiyedatiwa, has been acting as Governor.
Following his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu remained in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and attempted to run his state from there, sparking popular uproar.
On July 9, Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, announced the cancellation of festivities planned to commemorate her husband’s 70th birthday.
The Ondo first lady suspended the events on X after questions were raised about preparations to hold a fanfare despite her husband’s illness.
Nonetheless, rest confident that my return will be lavishly honored. Thank you for your patience. “I am Arabinrin a.k.a Ada Owere I,” she said on Twitter.
Akeredolu was diagnosed with leukemia in January, according to reports.
Leukemia is a blood malignancy caused by an increase in the number of white blood cells in the body. White blood cells drive out red blood cells and platelets, which the body requires to keep healthy.
